About Antony Orton MACostE
Construction knowledge.Commercial clarity.
I founded Orton Estimating Services to give builders, property professionals and homeowners access to experienced, independent estimating support without the overhead of a full-time estimator.
Practical experience
More than figures on a spreadsheet.
I have worked in construction for more than 25 years, beginning in estimating and tender preparation before moving through construction management, contracting and business ownership. Between 2017 and 2023 I owned and managed a residential construction business, taking projects from first enquiry and estimate through procurement, delivery, variations and completion.
Today, my estimating work covers planned maintenance, responsive repairs, refurbishment and public-sector projects, with particular strength in NSR Schedule of Rates pricing. Through OES I also provide tender reviews, NHF Schedule of Rates analysis, rate benchmarking, quantity take-offs and flexible estimating support.
Career journey
Built from both estimating and delivery.
Estimating foundations
Developed a strong grounding in take-offs, labour and material costings, subcontractor enquiries, tender documentation and practical construction methods.
Residential contractor and business owner
Estimated, sold and delivered residential projects while managing clients, procurement, subcontractors, variations, cost control, invoicing and cash flow.
Estimator and SOR specialist
Focused on NSR pricing for planned maintenance, responsive repairs, refurbishment and public-sector work, with working knowledge of JCT and NEC4 contracts.
Founder of OES
Independent estimating, tender review and commercial support for contractors, property professionals and homeowners across the Midlands.
How I work
Clear scope. Visible assumptions. Useful advice.
Figures are tested against realistic construction methods, labour, sequencing and delivery requirements.
Advice is focused on the decision you need to make, with risks and exclusions made visible.
The level of detail is matched to the project, from an early budget sense-check to a full tender estimate.
